Yesterday I had the pleasure of filming Karen Be's live performance at Proud
in Camden. A real talent and an absolute pleasure to watch as she creates the
beats there and then on stage with her voice and then sings over that beat.
After I had finished filming, her manager asked if I could take a few
photos! My first thoughts were 'where' lolol! It was 10pm, in a club and I didn’t
have my flash with me. But as I had my paglight with me, I thought I would give it
a try.
I'm happy to report that I was quite surprised and very happy with the
results :). Below are a couple of unedited pictures. I do need to bump up
the exposure in Lightroom but overall I’m happy with the captures.
I had the pleasure of working with Squarei yesterday night who were doing the red carpet interviews for Barclaycard Unwind at the Mercury Awards. Below are the edits I did for them on location at the Grosvenor Hotel where the awards were taking place.
When I first saw the Beyonce 1+1 Music Video debut on E! News I was in awe. I absolutely love this video, it's one of them videos where I wished I made it. You can count the amount of wide shots in this video, it's all about the intimacy, being close up and natural beauty. The fact that we sit there in blackness for 2 seconds at the beginning is a wonderful touch, the revolving light, then that sensational close up of her tears and see the revolving light in her iris, absolutely beautiful.
.......But after some thought I wondered why didn't they shoot it on film?
Can you imagine how beautiful those visuals would have looked with the
fantasy and romanticism of film. I appreciate there are a lot of effects
in the video which is why they shot on HD, but the opening shot setup should
have been film.
How did we go from shooting 16mm (standard UK) and 35mm (standard USA) for music videos, to shooting on a stills camera, and getting broadcast! The relationship I have with digital is love and hate, I love it because without digital I would not have achieved as much as I have in Music Videos, but then I hate it because everybody is a director these days! They are so affordable, and so if you're walking around with a 5d, 7d or 550d then you must be a director right!
Below are some behind the scenes pics from my latest shoot for Panjabi Hit Squad 'Miss Soniyeh'. I'm not generally a fan of club shoots being as I prefer creative ideas, but this shoot was fun and we got some nice shots.
It was also the first shoot I ever had an 1st AD, many thanks to Katherine Shannon and not only that a 2nd AD Trudy which was an interesting experience, but definitely one i'll be trying to have more often than none :)

Last night was so much fun :) me and fellow photographer Juliet and her nephew Rushan, set out very late in the evening to go get some night shots from Waterloo bridge - got back home at 3am lol. Even with one of our umbrellas destroyed and rain gushing down on us in the freezing cold, it was such a fun night.
I went with no flash! and a 50mm 1.4 lens, I did quite a lot of mucking about with low sutter speeds and very high ISO's. I was quite surprised how well the camera performed under the low light conditions. See the results below:
After a disasterous first try where I got back blank film :( - I had trouble putting the film in correctly, and so i ended taking it out and putting it back in, i think the elements got the best of it. Shame really, as I had some interesting captures, oh well. This is the beauty of film lolol!
I totally forgot I had a blogspot, I was looking through some others when it occured to me that I have one too lol! My last entry was March 2010 lol, how bad is that, mind you it is a fulltime job keeping all these networking sites up to date!

Bringing you up to speed, I had a fab photoshoot yesterday, my first ever studio shoot and it was so much fun,
